Springtime in the Rocky Mountains is one of our most extraordinary times of the year. Temperatures have warmed, days are longer, ski conditions are incredible, grills are fired up, and there’s a plethora of stellar events to usher in the end of ski season in Vail, Colorado. There are so many fun things going on during the last part of the season that you'll hardly be able to take a rest! Of course, you can rest easy knowing your Vail ski rentals are waiting for you at Bridge Street Ski Haus, just steps from gondola one. For fun, let's review some of the awesome events happening this spring in Vail!
This three-day festival is a celebration of the end of winter and offers loads of entertainment and crazy activities. The festival runs from April 14th -16th this year.
The big concert is on Saturday, April 15th. The show is free, and will be held in Vail Village. The band 123GO! Project, a compilation band including Stefan Lessard from Dave Matthews Band, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, Brett Scallions, lead singer from FUEL, and drummer Kenneth Schalk. Super exciting to have them headline in Vail!
A Luau is also scheduled Saturday afternoon at Sarge's on the mountain at Mid-Vail. The event will have games, giveaways, drink specials, live music, and a pig-roast to get you in that laid-back, hang-loose, Hawaiian state of mind. Also in Mid-Vail over the weekend will be a bags tournament sponsored by Bud Light. The finals for this fun competition will take place on Sunday, the 16th.
One part of the Spring Back to Vail festival you don’t want to miss is the World Pond Skimming Championships. Stake your claim for a prime spot on Golden Peak April 16th to catch all the fun. The venue opens at 1 PM for visitors to enjoy BBQ, and the Vail Expo Village that will be open all weekend and the Championships start at 3 PM! Bikinis, beads, crazy hats, tutus, and animal costumes are all likely to make an appearance as speed-demon and slightly zany skiers and snowboarders try to make it across an icy pond of water in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Movie lovers will not want to miss their chance to see some of the best independent films from all over the world. The event takes place March 30th through April 2nd and will feature extensive opportunities to network via a large offering of workshops and panel discussions in addition to the screenings of the films. And star watching – the Hollywood kind – is a great sport as well.
Right on the heels of the film festival comes the Taste of Vail - the annual foody dream event! This celebration promotes the ever-changing and evolving food and beverage culture of Vail. From April 5th through April 8th, this event is the perfect way to indulge your love of fine dining after being on the slopes all day. Taste of Vail offers a variety of culinary activities including a Mountaintop picnic surrounded by a giant freshly-built snow castle, a lamb cook-off, and the Grand Tasting night where diners can taste a mouth-watering variety of unique food and wine offerings brought to Vail from around the world! The chefs of Vail really know how to get your taste buds salivating.
As this winter season winds down, enjoy these fantastic events lined up for guests to enjoy all that Vail has to offer. These events are all in addition to the fantastic snow conditions, sunny mountain days, and apres’ ski patio fun to be had every day of the week. From concerts featuring some of the best national acts, an independent film festival, and a food and wine festival there is something that everyone can enjoy this Spring in Vail!
